Two NSIC Football Transfers Start Strong For Cobbers

Cobbers junior wide receiver Brandon Zylstra (6) had a big opener

Two transfer players had big debuts for the Concordia football team, which earned 39-14 victory against the University of Jamestown last Saturday at Jake Christiansen Stadium.

Wide receiver Brandon Zylstra and defensive lineman Nate Adams are both former Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference players who are now with the Cobbers. Zylstra played at Augustana and Adams played at Bemidji State.

“Those are two types of guys that you need to get to another level,” Cobbers head coach Terry Horan said of the two Division II transfers.

Zylstra had five catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns against the Jimmies. Adams had five tackles, including one for a loss.

Odds and ends

Domenic Fraboni was moved to the offensive line right before the season-opener against Jamestown. Fraboni spent most of fall camp at fullback. … Senior running back Zach Southwick didn’t play in the season opener with a lower leg injury. Southwick is expected to be a game-time decision for next Saturday’s game at Buena Vista. … Cobbers junior quarterback Griffin Neal had an impressive opener, completing 16 of 19 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns. Neal, former Fargo South standout, was named MIAC offensive player of the year for his performance. He is only the fourth player in program history to throw for 300 or more yards in a game.
