Minnesota State Moorhead starts its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference basketball season tonight for bot the men’s and women’s teams. The Dragons women are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. at Bemidji State with the men to follow at 8 p.m.
Both teams have new looks this season.
The Dragons women team has just one senior its roster (guard Betsy Dickson) and start two freshmen (point guard Haley Thomforde and center Katey Wrobel). Head coach Karla Nelson has her team 2-1 heading into conference play. Junior forward Angie Jetvig is coming off a strong 25-point, 16-rebound effort against Mayville State. Both were career highs. That performance helped Jetvig earn NSIC player of the week honors. Jetvig is averaging 20.7 points and 11.3 rebounds through three games.
The Dragons men’s team are set to play its first conference game under the guidance for first-year head coach Chad Walthall. Junior college transfers Charlie Chapman and Tarell Clark are new to the starting lineup, but have been solid performers. The men are 3-1 heading into the conference season.
“I think it’s been good for our mentality that we’ve won some games,” said Dragons sophomore center Alex Novak. “We know that we can win. A few games have been close. We know that we can finish games.”
