Minnesota State Moorhead has removed defensive coordinator Brandon Lemer from its football coaching staff, a move that took play Sunday, a day after the Dragons suffered a 47-17 home loss against No. 11 -ranked Augustana.

Dragons interim head coach Joel Beard said the move wasn’t made in response to one performance, but due to a difference of philosophies with Lemer on “the everday operation of the defense.”

Lemer said he was disappointed with the decision, which came with three games remaining in the season.

“It was kind of out of the blue,” Lemer said.

The Dragons next game is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the University of Mary in Bismarck.
